Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath (Retd; Sri Lanka Air Force) is a dynamic personality currently serving as the Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka with an unblemished record of service. He is with over 32 years of experience in the field of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. His leadership is accepted by all levels and also a proven personality in achieving given tasks. With his professional knowledge with management and leadership skills, he has successfully overcome crisis situations through diversified approaches over short term and long term actions.

He has gained higher level Academic and Staff qualifications in his field of work from prestigious universities locally and overseas. He possesses in depth practical as well as theoretical knowledge in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. He joined the Sri Lanka Air Force on 21st of July 1987 with the 5th Intake of Officer Cadets at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering and a Master’s Degree (Defence Studies) in Management from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. He has undergone specialized trainings in various countries such as India, Pakistan, Singapore, Israel and Australia.

During over 32 years of his illustrious service career in the Sri Lanka Air Force, he has held many key appointments within the Electronics Engineering Branch such as Zonal Signals Officer at Eastern Zone, Commanding Officer of the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Ratmalana, Staff Officer Electronics and the Deputy Director of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering at the Directorate of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering before being appointed as the Director of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering.

During his distinguished military career, he has been awarded with the Uttama Seva Padakkama, SLAF 50th Anniversary Medal, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal and Clasp, 50th Independence Anniversary Commemoration Medal, East Humanitarian Operations Medal and Clasp, North Humanitarian Operations Medal, North & East Operational Medal and Clasp, Poorna Bhoomi Padakkama and the Riviresa Campaign Service Medal.

He has served as an aircrew member of Y-8 transport aircraft who proudly wears the Air Electronics Brevet in the Sri Lanka Air Force.
