TRCSL ICT Volunteer Program 2023

The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the 'TRCSL ICT Volunteer Program 2023' was held on 21.05.2024 at the TRCSL Auditorium with the participation of officials from Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), Ministry of Education, Vocational Training Authority (VTA) and ICT volunteers from the Badulla, Kandy, Rathnapura, Ampara, Galle and Colombo districts.

Vocational students with NVQ qualification in ICT were selected as volunteers and trained for one month through a boot camp with the support of resource persons from universities, telecom operators, and other government organizations. After training at the boot camp, the volunteers were assigned to 13 schools in the aforementioned districts in coordination with the Ministry of Education for a period of two months.

The ICT volunteer program is highlighted as one of the capacity-building initiatives taken by TRCSL to uplift ICT education for students in rural areas. TRCSL started the local ICT volunteer program as a pilot project in 2019 by restructuring International ICT Volunteer Programme of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Beyond benefiting students in remote areas, the ICT volunteers are also considered as target beneficiaries of this initiative. The experience and exposure gained through this program will enable the volunteers to find better employment opportunities or pursue entrepreneurship in future.
