The 8th Annual Forum and the 50th Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Colombo from September, 13 -15th and at the Ceylon Continental Hotel from September, 16 -17th 2010, respectively. This event is being hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) in conjunction with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The theme of the Forum is “Towards Digital Commonwealth: Broadband connectivity for all”.
His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapakse is scheduled to declare open the CTO Forum during the inaugural session which will be held on Monday, September 13 from 9.00 to 10.00 a.m. at the Ballroom, Hilton Hotel.

With a history dating back to 1901, the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is a pre-eminent international ICT organization that draws its membership from all Commonwealth countries (Full Member country membership) and entities whose functions and activities are compatible with the purposes of the CTO (Sector membership). This two tier membership structure is designed to develop multi-stakeholder partnerships that are crucial for the development of ICTs.
With its headquarters based in London and recipient members based in Europe, the Caribbean, Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions, the CTO has been at the centre of continuous and extensive international communications development funding, co-operation and assistance programmes. The CTO’s mission is to reduce global poverty through the more efficient utilization of ICTs, and its development agenda reflects the priorities specified in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
