Research & Development in the field of Telecommunication 2024 – 1st Progress Presentations

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka successfully conducted the 1st Progress Presentations of the TRCSL Research & Development Program 2024 on 25th March 2025, reaffirming its commitment to foster innovation and advancing research in the telecommunication sector.

Aligned with the mandate of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, this initiative serves as a vital platform for bridging academia and industry, encouraging collaborative research that addresses emerging challenges and drives practical solutions in the field of telecommunication.

The progress presentations featured ongoing research projects from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Moratuwa, University of Kelaniya, and University of Ruhuna. These studies focus on:

  • Spatial sound recording and reproduction for personalized speech intelligibility enhancement in noise
  • An IoT based sleep monitoring tool for independent living support
  • Machine learning enabled network optimization to minimize the atmospheric ducting interference in LTE-TDD networks
  • Enhancing educational engagement and independence for visually impaired school children through Innovative software solutions
  • City Cense Colombo: Smart Sensing Network for Colombo

The event brought together researchers, university lecturers, TRCSL research committee members, and industry representatives, fostering constructive discussions on research progress and future collaborations. Each presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session, facilitating knowledge exchange among academia, industry, and regulatory experts.

Through such initiatives, TRCSL continues to support research that drives technological progress and strengthens the telecommunication sector in the country.
