Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the President and Chairman of TRCSL, paid a visit to the broadband monitoring unit established at the TRCSL on September 8, to view its operations. He was accompanied by Mr. Anusha Palpita, Director - General of TRCSL.

This unit began its work in 2010 under the guidance of both Mr. Weeratunga and Mr. Palpita for the purpose of monitoring the quality of service in broadband offered by the service providers.

“Broadband has a high potential in accelerating economic growth. Therefore it is vital that broadband is harnessed for Sri Lanka’s rapid economic development” said Mr. Weeratunga.

TRCSL has been actively involved in QoS monitoring since last year. An automated system has been introduced, at zero cost, to test broadband download speeds with pin point accuracy. The TRCSL is now getting ready with a system, which is currently on trial, to offer to the public shortly to measure Internet download speeds from the user’s end.

Mr. Sanath Siriwardena, Consultant, who is in charge of the broadband unit, conducted a demonstration to show the broadband speed testing methodology.
