A. What is a Vendor Licence
The Vendor Licence is an authorisation issued by the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) to manufacture, import, sale, offer for sale, deal-in, hire, lease, demonstrate, maintain or repair of any telecommunications equipment or radio communication equipment in Sri Lanka.
B. Legal Provision
In terms of provision of section 21 of the Telecommunication Act No.25 of 1991 as amended by Act No.27 of 1996, No person shall by way of trade manufacture, import sale, offer for sale, deal in, transfer, hire, lease, demonstrate, maintain or repair of any telecommunications apparatus except under the authority of a licence issued by the TRC.
C. Vendor Licence Procedure
The Application for Vendor licence could be obtained from the TRC without any payment.
D. Applying for a Vendor Licence
♦ The duly completed application form should be submitted to the TRC along with a letter of request for Vendor Licence
(covering letter in the letter head).
♦ Business Registration Certificate.
♦ The memorandum of Article of Association.
♦ Details of the workshop facilities and the staff and their qualification.
♦ Technical specification of the Telecommunication Apparatus.
E. MOD Clearance
Following applications are forwarded to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) by the TRC for the security clearance.
♦ Wireless Communication Apparatus.
♦ Satellite Receivers.
♦ GPS/GPRS Vehicle Tracking Devices.
F. Workshop Inspection
After getting the MOD Security clearance workshop inspection will be arranged.
G. Vendor Licence Fees
Based on the activities performed, annual Vendor Licence fees are charged as per the following five (05) categories.
Payment notice is issued only for successful applicants in order to process the Vendor Licence.
